about

Downtown St. John's Newfoundland is an amazing place for listening to or taking part in traditional sessions, or "trad" sessions. When living there I had an amazing time sitting in on many of these sessions which mostly play Irish tunes, Scottish tunes, Newfoundland tunes etc. This set here is made up of tunes we would always play at Oreilly's, a fixture on George Street. The first tune of this three tune set is a Quebecois tune, the next two are by Emile Benoit, a Newfoundland composer and fiddler. These are performed by myself and three others that were regular performers at Oreilly's!

lyrics

Instrumental set of three tunes: Sheepskins and Beeswax (Quebecois), Jim Hodder's Reel, Breakwater Boys Breakdown (Newfoundland tunes by Emile Benoit).

I find inspiration in the wild landscapes of Canada, including Algonquin Park and through my original compositions, try to convey musically the awe inspiring beauty so evocative of these places. ... more
