about

My version of Canada's oldest Christmas Carol - in English, French and a mixture of English, French and Wendat. This song was crafted somewhere around 1640 AD by a Jesuit name Jean De Brebeuf, on the shores of Lake Huron, Ontario. He used the music of French traditional song "Une Jeune Purcelle" and came up with the text in Wendat (the native language) so that the Huron people could understand the words. in 1649 he and some other Huron captives were ritually tortured and killed by the Iroquois, but his song has survived all this time. The haunting carol and story truly capture the lore, mystery and messiness of the origins of Canada.

I find inspiration in the wild landscapes of Canada, including Algonquin Park and through my original compositions, try to convey musically the awe inspiring beauty so evocative of these places. ... more
